This is the first talk show set designed in the HDTV era and there's
no reason that the set design can't be a departure from previous
design geared to the new technology. At least find some sense of 21st
Century design rather than look at past talk shows and add nothing.

NBC had a huge budget and the opportunity to build the Tonight Show
studio from the ground up and that gives them more possibilities in
set design. I just sense that they were looking for risk avoidance and
being overly conservative and that leads them to a mediocre set.
