>From reading “The Late Shift” it was clear that Kushnick was the
person most responsible for getting Jay the Tonight Show job. The
cynical view would be that once Jay got what he wanted, he threw her
overboard. Johnny Carson, for one, didn’t buy the line that Jay didn’t
know what Kushnick was up to in the background. I thought Jay
should’ve acknowledged Helen’s role in his career while he was giving
out the thanks on his last show.
Personally, I believe Jay is a political animal who weighs up every
single thing he says to protect his brand.
