At a meeting with Beeb chief Mark Thompson at the Television Centre in
London yesterday, over 100 BBC personalities, including "Top Gear"'s
Jeremy Clarkson, Brit TV icon Bruce Forsyth and Radio 2 morning drive
institution Terry Wogan (but not including Graham Norton, Radio 1
morning driver Chris Moyles and talk show host Jonathan Ross, whose
suspension for aiding and abetting Russell Brand's harassment of
Andrew Sachs recently ended) were told that if they make over 100,000
GBP a year working for the taxpayer-funded pubcaster, they are to
expect at least a 25% salary cut (and maybe up to 40%)--generally,
they seemed to accept it as a price of the economy:

The Beeb had gotten into some controversy over the contracts they gave
out to keep stars like Norton, whose BBC2 talk show is moving to mass
appeal BBC1 in the fall and is becoming the star of the One's big
Saturday night "entertainment" shows (and the anchor of the Beeb's
Eurovision song contest coverage), and Ross, who supposedly last year
signed an 16.9M GBP three-year contract to host his "Friday Night"
talk show (which starts running here on BBCA Friday night in prime
time) and his Saturday midday talk-and-music show on Radio 2 before
Sachsgate happened.
