I'll third the recommendation for Fremont Street. Lots of fun stuff outside the casinos, plus the feel of "old Vegas". It's a much more enjoyable experience. We took one night and drove out to the strip; walked around Imperial Palace, Harrah's, Caesar's Palace and the Forum Shops (the high-end shopping mall attached to Caesar's). The whole experience felt more...corporate. It was almost like the difference between walking Main Street in a small town in the Midwest and walking Main Street at Disneyland. (And if you go out to the strip, bring comfortable shoes--you'll do a lot of walking.) Don't stay at The Plaza. Stayed there my first night--they botched my reservation (as in, had no record of my pre-paid reservation through Expedia), and botched the reservations of two other people while I was waiting in their lobby for an hour. Rooms were terrible--the TV set was vintage 1987. Next couple of nights were at the Four Queens (on Fremont St.); they had just finished renovating the rooms, and it was in really nice shape. (And, if you're a nerd like me, you have to hit the Forum Shops, just to ride the semi-circular escalators...) -- -- Ben Scripps [email protected] --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
