Okay, let me put it this way.

The amount of time Stephanie was on the air wasn't commensurate with her
on-screen abilities.

Now, all the late nite talk show hosts put non-professionals on the air -- but,
maybe, with one or two exceptions, it's usually only for a few seconds here and
there. And, if they're bad -- or don't accomplish a purpose (comedy) -- we
almost never see them again.

Yet, there was a period of time when Stephanie seemed to be on the show all the
time. And, she never looked comfortable doing what she was doing -- and she
wasn't very good at it. Okay, she stank. She couldn't think on her feet. I'd
either switch the channel, or, more likely, go to bed whenever she was on. I
doubt she did a thing for the ratings; in fact, her bits may have hurt them.

That's not to say she's not a nice person. For all I know, she's a lovely
young woman. But she shouldn't have been on the air, especially as much as she
was. She didn't belong on television, and it was really obvious.

Similarly, Jay put Ross the Intern on the air quite a bit. But Ross's segments
could be quite amusing. I remember switching to Jay so that I could catch Ross
at the Oscars, for example. Ross probably boosted the ratings. And, now he's
got his own show (I think?).

When, abruptly, there was no more Stephanie on the air, that's when I became
convinced that she and Dave had had a fling. And, that it was over. It's
never a good idea for an employer and employee to have a romantic relationship.
I mean -- it can happen -- but if it does, one of them should probably find
employment elsewhere while it's going on.

Please elaborate.

Anyone on the staff who doesn't wish to be on the air isn't on the air. This
isn't O'Reilly and his stalking reporter we're talking about here.
