The funny thing is this extortion plot would have been just unbelievable enough to make for a funny movie.
A distinguished journalist (would one consider a news producer a journalist?) down on his luck hatches a plot to blackmail a popular TV host by making a *film* and writing a book about that host's sexual dalliances (as opposed to something simpler and more straight-forward). The host instead decides to reveal the details, which is sleeping with his employees, on his show -- which is greeted with applause and laughter.
