After stability between week 2 and week 3, Leno went down about 10%
from week 3 to week 4. Most of the loss came on Monday and Tuesday,
and it is possible that he lost some east coast viewers to the big MNF
game. Again, if he stays within 5 and 6 million viewers then he is
probably fine (though it seems the affiliates are bitching about the
hit their local news is taking, see e.g.
http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/jay-leno-s-show-is-bad-news-for-late-news-1.1513046).
NBC is really starting to emphasize the "we will kick their ass during
rerun season" mantra, which to be fair was something they have been
saying all along. It will be interesting to see what happens to Leno's
viewership during weeks when ABC and CBS are in reruns - I wonder how
many people really will watch new Lenos rather than reruns of their
favorite programs? With DVR I almost never watch reruns anyway, but
unless there was a compelling guest, or some issue I was curious to
see Leno's take on, I doubt a rerun would drive me back to Leno (but
then, I begin with a more negative set point towards Leno than most
people). The numbers below come for the most part from TV by the
Numbers, which seem to be a little different from some other sources.
