Here's my suggestion, and I know it's not workable because NBC already promoted "FIVE NIGHTS OF JAY!", but I'm gonna say it anyway: if they're going to continue with this experiment, cut him back to 3 nights a week. Give him Monday (to recap the weekend, and for his beloved 'Headlines' segment), Thursday (new movie promotion), and Friday (to satisfy the shut-ins who don't go out on Saturdays and aren't watching cable). Reduce the guest load and expand the interview segments.
Some other thoughts: Let Jay really open up and have some fun with his guests, rather than running the formula interview he's always run. Let him steal another idea from a Brit and interview someone while IN the ElectroFocus, akin to Robert Llewellen's "Carpool" podcast - that lets the viewer see the car AND puts both Jay and guest out of their element. Or maybe do a whole car segment once a week with someone like Adam Carolla, akin to Top Gear's news segment. And the 1...@10 should be tightened up with editing - there's no reason for a taped show to have satellite lag.
