I was particularly interested in how Leno would do this Monday night against what clearly was the least attractive Monday Night Football game of the year. Leno's Monday ratings have been very sensitive to competing sports programming, so I assumed he would be up vs last week. If he was flat, it would be catastrophic.
For some reason the ratings were slow coming out this week, I guess TV By The Numbers had them sometime this morning, but I just had a chance to run over and look at them. Last Monday Leno did 3.97M viewers, 1.2 in the demo. This week he was at 4.6M/1.2, up about 15%. He was down about 7% for the week last week, but more than that on Monday. This number makes me think Leno has a chance to make up much of the ground he lost last week - which would be one of the weeks he posted an improvement. I am not sure when the November sweeps officially end, but if this is the last full week, and Leno shows measurable improvement, it might help him with the antsy affiliates. He really needs to find a floor below which the show's ratings won't fall. If he can say that his number fluctuates between 1.4 and 1.7 and averages about 1.5, he will be in good shape. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
