I wrote a piece of dark (very dark) comedy about this jackass back in
2006. Aside from what specifically Robertson was being an idiot about
(in 2006, he'd denounced Israel), the writing still seems to resonate.
It was entitled "Pat Robertson Must Die" (like I said, dark comedy):

Clearly nobody took me seriously then.

My take on Robertson has always been akin to my take on Limbaugh and
O'Reilly (and to an extent, Michael Moore and Al Sharpton). You aren't
going to convince anybody that they are gasbags. And whenever we (I
include myself) pay them lip service, we're just serving to add more
publicity to them. What is the viewership of "The 700 Club"? I would
guess the bulk of the show's ratings stem from media watch dog groups
who are either looking for quotes to pick apart or looking for quotes
to include on their right-wing PAC leaflets.

We had a good three or four year period in the last decade when the
media ignored Limbaugh and he was reduced to obscurity. It was a nice
time to be alive. But then people began reporting his rants about
Obama, and suddenly he is being described as the unofficial leader of
the Republican party. That was the media's doing.

When someone says or does a bad thing, it is important that we speak
out against it. I'm not advocating a total media blackout of these
idiots, but there is no way to report their words without including a
bias. Sadly, reporters tend to be pretty bad at their jobs. Instead of
holding idiots accountable for their words, they'll fill the story
with what other people think. This could be done in the form of
man-on-the-street interviews, or it could be done by seeking the
reactions of "learned pundits." Either way, they've fueled the story
instead of denouncing the words.

So, I'll stick with my original thesis: Pat Robertson Must Die.

I'm kidding, of course (have to say that for legal reasons).
