Austin's arrangement has almost every basic cable channel twice (once with a two-digit number and once with a three-digit number) and every non-broadcast HD channel twice (once with a three-digit number and once with a four-digit number,) and there is no discernible correlation between the 2-, 3-, and 4-digit numbers for a channel. -- David J.
