You have to go to the syndicated late night talkers to see any consistent
non-suit wearing, and it's still rare. I know Jon Stewart didn't wear a suit
for his MTV show, but I can't remember if he did when he went syndicated (sort
of taking over Arsenio's spot/coverage). I don't think he did, but it's been a
while.

>From memory (so not exhaustive):
Talkshow with Spike - suit
Vibe - suit for both hosts
Chevy - suit
Pat Sajak - suit
The Magic Hour - suit
Wanda Sykes - mixes it up
Chelsea - mixes it up

While I think Wanda and Chelsea are dressing more casual than Joan did, I don't
know if it's really causal, or if female talk show wardrobes constitute the
apples to male wardrobe oranges.

Daytime seems more casual, with the exception of Regis and Kelly Lee.

Khakis sounds right. In the very early days of Late Night, there was
about a week where Dave wore a sweater and no tie. I seem to remember
Conan doing something similar once a week for a little while.
Apparently, none of these guys really wants to wear a tie, but the
audience expects it.
