It's nothing new. Within the last decade, Moulin Rouge and Chicago both won the musical/comedy film category. They seem to make a point of nominating a musical, even if it's not terribly comedic in tone. Dreamgirls (2007), Phantom of the Opera (2006), and Walk the Line (2005), for instance. -- David J.
