I'd like to believe this will humble him, and he will emerge from the
experience with some humility, but I know better. I'd like to believe
this is the start of a change in tide, and that soon all the
opinionated jagoffs will vacate the airwaves, but I know better.

What I do know is that Larry King has retired, Regis is on his way
out, Oprah is moving to cable obscurity, and now Keith is gone. And
because of the lack of a broadcasting proving ground, nobody is
waiting in the wings. We lack a successful mentoring program for
broadcasters; I think the last one to benefit from on-the-job training
was Brian Williams. Like them or lump them, the previous generation
had broadcasters and the next generation does not.
