NBC did not "let" Conan have a farewell - they milked the situation for the best ratings he had since his first weeks. OTOH, I am not surprised they let KO have a "farewell" - the alternative would have been to yank him in an ugly and abrupt way just before the show. It will be interesting to find out just what it means that MSNBC and KO ended their contract. It must mean that MSNBC bought out the contract that was just extended in some way, and that KO in some way agreed to the buy out.
