Returning 10:00 to the affiliates sounds like the beginning of the end
of broadcast TV networks to me. 10:00 is where cable puts its prestige
shows, which just gives viewers another reason to turn away (and I
think that the increased competition up there with DVRs among causes
of the drop-off in 10:00 viewing on the major networks.)

Also, I don't see it as beneficial for a lot of affiliates. A lot of
markets already have multiple news sources at 10:00, and many of them
are produced by and/or branded as the output of the local affiliate of
a major network. Also, the "Jay at 10" debacle seems to prove that,
even in first-run, five-a-night strips don't get the ratings of
once-a-week shows.
