In the absence of actual evidence of the quality of an actor's work one
might have to rely on inferences - perhaps even those based on the dubious
logic that an actor who appears in a popular show one disdains must be an
untalented hack. However we are not in the kind of situation that requires
this kind of inference. I have never seen a frame of Glee, but I have seen a
lot of Jane Lynch's previous work. She is clearly among the most talented
comic actors working these days, and I think it is unlikely that she
suddenly lost her talent either just before or after she joined the cast of
Glee. I notice the show is streaming on Netflix, and I imagine one day I
will watch a few episodes, and if and when I do the only reason will be for
Lynch.

This is a brilliant move by the Emmy's by the way, who no doubt are
struggling to appeal to a younger crowd (if Emmy voters had their way
Candace Bergin and John Larroquette would still be winning statutes). Lynch
is edgy without being threatening, and should be both funny and bump their
numbers. Gervais (who I also love) was threatening without being terribly
funny - I think this will work out better.
