After decades of banning product placement, the UK's regulators
relented and started allowing it in programming on the commercial
networks, with a "P" icon required to appear at the beginning and end
of programs that do it (the example in the Guardian blog post is on
ITV's long-running morning gabber "This Morning")--however, a new
survey says that the vast majority of the British public don't know
what the icon means--so much for protecting the public:
