On the face of it there is no basis for this headline - the change does not
seem to favor streaming any more than discs, as either basic plan costs the
same. But I think it is based on the assumption that most Netflix users (at
least, most of those who have joined the service in the last 18 months or
so) use it primarily for streaming, and will see the change as either
forcing them to pay more for something they dont use very much, or opt out
of it (discs) all together. Based on the response to this list that seems
about right (most, though not all, posters here seem to use it more for
streaming). I think it is a fair bet that the result of this change will be
that a year from now Netflix will be shipping fewer films, and streaming
more, than they are today.

I should say that I am not critical of the price change - as the subject
header of this thread suggests, since we joined Netflix we have felt that we
were getting way more value than we were being charged for (especially last
summer) and it always seemed unbelievable that things could continue that
way for long. We joined Netflix because my son and I wanted to watch the
last 5 seasons of Buffy online; I never would have joined just to access the
discs by mail, so we have always seen them as an extra bonus supplementing
the streaming service.
