I don't think any American really wants the President (regardless of party affiliation) to be able to "act against" an opposition party. I also disagree with the universal dismissal of the Republican Party. While I agree with almost every distinctive position of the Republican Party, in general they are a responsible Party, and people of good will can engage in passionate debate.
