The audience inside the theater is industry people and they will cheer
him, because whatever else he did, he did not hurt the industry as a
whole. The most possible damaging consequence of his manic episode
would have been to cause the cancellation of his show, throwing 200
people out of work, and that has been averted so Charlie is the
equivalent of a child who acted up. Just as a parent still loves that
child, TV will still love Charlie.

I agree about the roast. When I was a teenager I would always watch
the Dean Martin Roasts. Contrived and insincere as they were, there
was still a feeling of community about them, famous people gently
ribbing each other. In the current roasts, the comics usually aren't
close to the roastee, the feeling is detached, and the put downs are
much more aggressive and nasty. Specifically about Sheen, comics will
make jokes about his outburst, but nobody is going to flat out tell
him the truth about what he did.
