I'll attribute this to being older than the target market here, but I
don't get the idea of following big brands. So 1) people generally
think like I do and those who follow big brands are dumb and gullible,
or 2) I'm out of the loop and following the big brands is a meaningful
activity.

I'm not denigrating Twitter - I like craft beers and I follow local
breweries and beer bars to get timely information about upcoming
seasonal beers and tastings or other events. So I get the idea of
following small businesses with frequent changes in their product
lines. But I don't get why somebody would follow Coca Cola.
