I think that really crossed the line, and I blame this on the people
producing the game as well. Look, we know the promos are lame. We know
that Zooey Deschanel would not have been singing the anthem had this
game been on any other television network. And if someone wants to
show me a source that identifies Ms Deschanel as a huge baseball fan,
I'll reconsider this. But I'd bet that she had a lot of other places
she'd rather be than there. She was brought in to sing the anthem. She
did that. She left after having made a reasonable length of
appearance. For them to call her (and the casts) out for leaving early
was a dick move. And not just that: a dick move in a taut, 2-2
ballgame. What were they trying to prove?

If I represented, promoted, or was Deschanel, I'd be downright furious
this morning.

FWIW: Deschanel would tweet later, "Would have loved to have watched
the whole game but I had to catch a plane so I can go to work
tomorrow. That's all guys. I'm not a jerk."
