As you note, when they checked in in the 4th inning he gave her props for sticking around that long, and then said something like "we will check back later and see if she is still here". So then they did go back later to see if she was there, and she wasn't. Leaving a World Series game early does not make you lazy, or a jerk. It does make you something less than a baseball fan. I have a feeling I need my job, and paycheck, more than Zoey Deschannel needs hers, but if someone gave me free transportation and field level seats for a world series game, I am pretty sure I would find a way to stay through till the end. That does not make me a better human being than Zoey (indeed, based on the little I know of her and the lot I know about myself, I probably would give the nod to her on that score). The fact that the casual baseball game viewer may not understand all of this is actually my point. Perhaps a casual viewer sees the cut in to the celebs and thinks these are real baseball fans, and does not understand that what they just saw was a commercial. What Buck did was basically blow away the smoke and show exactly what was going on. I did not hear him say anything bad about her, I heard him calling bull shit on Fox. I put it in the same category as Bob Costas a couple of weeks ago making fun of the promo he was doing for the Today Show during SNF. I read it as these guys basically saying "you can make me read the commercial copy, but you can't make me keep a straight face while I do it". Again, if Zoey had simply sang her song and left to catch her plane, there is absolutely no story here. She chose to participate in the face, and got called out for it. If I were her, and didn't really care about the baseball game, I would just laugh it off. -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
