First, as far as I know, it was Fallon who apologized, not the Roots. It
was his show, and I believe he was not aware of the song choice in advance,
and I suspect he was genuinely sorry. Second, I don't think it is exactly a
news bulletin that late night talk show hosts and fringe political
candidates are whores for attention. Third, I think you are wrong about the
average citizen of the nation, who in general do believe that the President
and members of Congress should be treated in public with basic civility and
respect (though they don't always practice that themselves). Fourth, why do
you assume that being polite to somebody is the same as giving them a free
pass? There are lots of more effective ways of confronting a politician for
"actively screwing up in the United States" than by playing a snarky,
passive-aggressive song.
