If I read this right, they were up 4% in total viewers from last year, but
down 1% in the demo. This is consistent with what seemed to me to be the
basic narrative from last night, which is that old people were digging the
comfortable old shoe, while young people were impatient and ready to bail.
However, even the 1% drop in the demo is pretty good, as noted above the
tvbythenumbers guys expected an even bigger drop this year, mostly due to
the absence of any major box office champs in the best pic noms (The Help
was the biggest box office film, and was something like #14).
