All that said, submissions by Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Chris Cornell, Sinead O'Connor, will.i.am, Pink, Brad Paisley, Robbie Williams, Zooey Deschanel, Zac Brown and Alan Menken weren't "good" enough to merit a five-song nomination total. That lovely (original) Sinead O'Connor song alone was worth acknowledging with a nom. Ah well. Another reason to consider competitive awards in the arts and the attendant lavish ceremonies to be crap - heavily manipulated popularity contests disguised as lofty honorifics.
