I've learned my lesson. I will never jokingly aside to anything. We will ruminate over anything and everything. Some additional points that lead to viewer/reporter confusion: 1. I'm not a typophile, but the typeface chosen for the title of the modern series seem to imply the letter 'O'. Generally the capital letter 'O' is fatter or rounder than the number '0'. A circle vs a vertical oval. Conveniently enough, the character in the title is more of a rounded rectangle, longer horizontally than vertically, satisfying neither. But since it is relative, fat 'O' generally means letter. Skinny '0' means number. But I am not a typophile. I don't even know what that font face is called. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hawaii_five-o.png 2. The title is obviously a play on how people speak out numbers. That "Five-Oh" is the spelling out of how fifty is spoken isn't in question. The question is whether the phonicification of the spoken "spelling" of "Five-Oh" goes through the entire phrase -- here it would seem that "Five-[Letter] O" is more correct than "Five-[Numeral] Zero" of the series today. (My habit, influenced by Bill Watterson's "Calvin and Hobbes", would have rendered it Five-Oh" http://static.flickr.com/28/99077721_4c1801aa18_o.jpg ) And no one pronounces the name of the series as "Five-zero". Screw it. For now on, I'm just calling the show "CSI: Hawaii". -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
