I would be equally puzzled and curious about someone who was passionately positive about him. Also, again, as far as I am concerned Seacrest does not exist as a radio personality. I have never, ever heard him on the radio, and only know he is on the radio because I have seen it on the list of all the many jobs he has. On a very small scale I have a job where I have to talk for a living for hours a day live in front of people, repeatedly having to speak extemporaneously, within and outline, account for unpredicted and unscripted questions and answers from others, still cover all of my bases and hit several hard deadlines in a coherent, understandable and at least occasionally entertaining way. I have some appreciation for how hard it is to do what Seacrest makes look rather easy. He is superficial and cliched and he panders and he preens. I doubt that there are many people who would do what he is asked to do more substantively or originally, and I am sure few could do it more smoothly. He is inoffensive, and gets a big lumbering and complex machine from point A to point B, mostly on time. I would not call him talent-less, though the talent he has may seem less substantial that brain surgery or even jazz improvisation. There is a guy in the dining commons at my institution who makes a good sandwich. It is not the best sandwich ever, it does not give me an orgasm and I would not recommend that anyone drive even 5 minutes out of their way to taste it. But when I have 15 minutes to walk over and get a sandwich that I know I will not hate, I can count on him to make the same thing every time, quickly and neatly, and get it to me in a form that I can eat and get back to work. I like this guy (I don't love him, but I appreciate him). If I heard someone hating on him I would wonder why. If they told me they hated him because he used too many towels down at the gym I would say "Oh. I don't care about that. But if you take away his gym membership, please don't fire him from his job, because he makes my sandwich they way I like it quickly". That is how I feel about Seacrest. -- TV or Not TV ....
