Being too emotional and sentimental doesn't have to conflict with handling the
soft stories well.

Subject: Re: [TV orNotTV] Re: NYT: Ann Curry on the way out at "Today"

I have been reading a little more about the Today Show transition story today,
and have come upon a contradiction that I can not resolve. Some stories say
that the perception has been that Curry was too emotional and sentimental;
other stories say that the perception has been that she had too much of a "hard
news" background and bias, and did not handle the soft stories well. My only
limited exposure to her suggests the former, not the latter.

The consistent thread through all of these stories is that she had "bad
chemistry" with Matt. I guess that means she did not playfully touch his arm
(or seductively clobber him over the head) the way Katie used to. But I have
not been able to figure out if this is a problem with how their relationship
was perceived on air, or if this is some kind of code for Matt letting people
know he wanted to see a switch.
