Someone has posted on YouTube the 2007 pilot for NBC's Americanization of
"The IT Crowd," which HuffPo has embedded, with Richard Ayaode repeating
his role as Ross from the original series, Joel McHale in the Chris O'Dowd
role and Jessica St. Clair ("Best Friends Forever") in the Katherine
Parkinson role--NBC had announced the series as a mid-season show for
2007-08, but it never went into production for series:

Turns out that the pilot script (which is essentially the same as the
original UK series pilot, with the same music and a similar title sequence)
was adapted by the two new showrunners for "SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!"
"Community"--could it be that Dan Harmon uploaded this onto YouTube as an
attempt to embarrass the guys who replaced him?

And as for HuffPo's complaints about the "laugh track," the original UK
series was multi-cam and as someone who thinks he can tell the difference
between a live audience and a laugh track, it sounds for the most part like
a live audience to me. Yes, there are the scenes that are obviously not
shot in front of an audience, but that's very Britcom as well. Why do the
sitcom snobs immediately scream "LAUGH TRACK!" at a multi-cam show when
they never accuse the late-night guys of sweetening?
