2007. "IT Crowd" creator Graham Linehan was on Richard Herring's "Leicester Square Theatre Podcast" last week (with fellow guest Armando Iannucci) and said that the U.S. series pilot was done without his knowledge or cooperation (even though he was supposedly an executive producer). He says that Fremantle, the owner of the production company that produced "IT Crowd" in the UK considered the show just another format like "Idol" or "The Price is Right' to be sold overseas. You can listen yourself (and it's a fun discussion, with Iannucci bringing up the insanity of trying to make "The Thick of It" a U.S. series on ABC and saying British TV people are too in awe of American television):
