<[email protected]>I think the BBC's websites have been up and down a
little bit over the last couple of days, although I've not noticed it
myself. They're no doubt getting ready for the massive "hit" that will be
Olympics traffic in a couple of weeks.

Radio 1 hasn't quite moved into the new Broadcasting House, but will be in
a couple of months. Bush House shut down yesterday as noted above, which
was home to much of the BBC World Service, and they've all now moved in the
new "BH". Lots of old kit is being auctioned off, and while I'm tempted to
buy something inexpensive and random, it's mostly old-ish technology and
really random prints. (I may bid for a microphone or something:

I've had a brief look inside the new Broadcasting House on a couple of
occasions now, and it's immense with radio studios all over the place. The
ground floor will be the home of BBC TV News. It really is an enormous news
hub and it looks amazing. Built into older part of Broadcasting House is
the Radio Theatre which is home to lots of radio shows with audiences like
The Now Show or Newsquiz. Worth trying to get tickets if you're ever in
London.

As mentioned, the oddity is BBC Breakfast which has moved up to Salford in
a move that would be the equivalent of moving a US network breakfast show
to, oh, Boston. To be fair, the new set is identical to the old one - on
the basis that they didn't really want viewers to notice the difference.
Not that they don't reference it. The big issue is that they have to do
lots of satellite link-ups to interviewees based in London. Yet despite all
that, it's still ahead of ITV's Daybreak which still hasn't found its feet
since ITV foolishly fired their old presenters about two years ago. It's
certainly nothing special, but I suppose it serves its purpose. The Salford
studio complex (which ITV will also be moving into - rebuilding the entire
set of long-running soap Coronation Street) is fantastic, but also on quite
bleak. I'm not sure they'd want a studio with windows like many US morning
shows.

And of course, never mistake Salford for Manchester! The locals would have
your guts for garters. Of course Salford is in "Greater" Manchester. But
they're touchy about these things.

OT: I spotted this OB truck on the way to work this morning:

I suspect that there'll be a few more around London over the coming weeks!
