Honestly, who's in this pool in the first place? Assuming CraigyFerg doesn't want the gig, who's up next on the list of succession? In a perfect world you'd say "Jon Stewart" but I wonder if he could switch gears and do a guest-driven show instead an issues-driven one. Colbert can "act" like a talk show host for his 3-4 minute interviews, but the fact that he's playing a part has never been conducive to legitimate give-and-take, so who knows how he'd do if he dropped the "Steven Colbert" character on a network show?
In these days of almost never using guest-hosts, it's hard to get a picture of who would even be willing to take the gigs when Dave and Jay retire, much less who might have an actual chance of success.
