I think Evanier is right in general, but I disagree with a couple points (with the caveat that I freely admit I don't watch either of them):
(a) Evanier puts too much weight on what Dave will do after the show. If Dave doesn't head off to Montana, away from everyone, I'll eat my proverbial hat. (b) The fact that neither of them has allowed guest hosts at all except under medical duress shows how much neither of them truly want to risk being a Wally Pipp (despite every piece of evidence to the contrary, especially with Dave). Let Jimmy or SCG take a week in the big chair. Anything along those lines. If Johnny (who Dave admires) could have no less than Joey Bishop as a guest host as far back as the 60s, why not? On the other hand, I think the discussion we had here on Leno's commentary after the Newtown, Connecticut shooting shows exactly how comfortable in his skin Jay is.
