I can't tell from Kevin's last paragraph if he means the volume of African
American winners on Big Brother or American Idol. From what I can tell from
the wikipedia page, AI has had 3 AA winners in its 11 seasons (counting
Jordan Sparks), and, as is well known, the last five seasons have been won
by white guys with guitars. I don't think that reflects racism by the
producers, but it does reflect that the audience for this show, at least in
the last half of its life, is white girls and older women, particularly in
the south.

Perhaps it was an attempt to broaden the demographic that led them to add
Nicki Minaj to the judging panel, but I do agree with Melissa, she is so
relentlessly obnoxious that she makes the show unwatchable (notwithstanding
its watchability even without her). I detest Mariah Carey, though she is
less annoying than I thought she would be, and Mr. Kidman is a non-impact
player. You know something is seriously wrong when Randy Jackson is the
most appealing judge on the panel.

Adam Levine was one of the worst SNL hosts I have seen in a long time
(well, literally in a week, since the Hunger Games girl was not very good
either), but I would much rather Levine and the country boy on The Voice
shoot the shit for an hour than expose myself to 5 minutes of the current
AI panel.
