I don't know the regulations for LA law enforcement in the use of tear gas, but I have training and experience with it and it was forbidden for us to throw a tear gas grenade or fire a canister into an enclosed space. It can cause asphyxiation in a short time and a whiff of the stuff makes a person blinded and disoriented and unable to find their way out of a room and to safety. The acceptable use of tear gas is to disperse unruly crowds outdoors.
