It seems to me that having Murdoch buy the LA Times would kill a lot of its readership as it turned to the extreme right that other Murdoch papers have (I'm thinking of the WSJ and NY Post). Might still be profitable because he's good at that, but it wouldn't be LA's paper of record anymore.
