A lot of people have forgotten that the Times was a right-wing rag before Otis Chandler took it over from his father. If Murdoch bought the paper, it wouldn't be exactly like taking over the Post, Dorothy Schiff's bulwark of genteel liberalism, or the Sun-Times, founded by Marshall Field to go directly against Col. McCormick and the Tribune.
Of course, to Harry Shearer it will still be the Dog Trainer.
