I am too young to actually have read it in the bad old days, but my parents and grandparents never really trusted the LAT because of what it had been. I grew up as a proud LAT reader, convinced it was the third best paper in the country (though bloated) - having proven its worth during Watergate, breaking its fair share of stories. I used to wake up at 6:00 every morning in high school and read the paper from our front porch with breakfast. Murdoch and the original LAT were made for each other, more's the pity. -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
