The comic strip test cases these days are Mallard Fillmore and Prickly City. I'm not sure MF has ever tried to be non-political, but Prickly City sometimes is, and that's usually when you have a chance to chuckle.
Perhaps this is splitting hairs, but I think it's easier to make fun of liberal or conservative politicians than of their politics. YMMV, of course.
