... Dennis Miller is attempting to bring back his rants. I sampled
three of them. To quote Aaron Sorkin, "He forgot to bring the funny."

This brings back a topic we've discussed before, but can a
conservative comic ever be funny? I heard him endorse Ayn Rand's evil
(not hyperbole, she was evil) in episode 4 and say the pope seemed
like a really good man (reminded me of the clips I'm seeing of Rodman
describe his visit to North Korea) in episode 8. Maybe if I was the
so-called 1% and heard Miller say we should let the "clueless" people
die (episode 1), I'd be more inclined to chuckle.

Jon Lovitz took flack after one of Kevin Smith's podcasts last year
for calling Obama names because Lovitz thought his taxes would be
raised -- I heard the podcast, and I didn't care about his politics...
he wasn't funny. Gallagher went off the rails last year and decided
there were parts of the country where it was appropriate to tell jokes
about gays and lesbians and "arabs" (basically in any known
conservative region).

All three comics I mentioned each have the capacity to be funny, but
when their "humor" leans to the right, the funny goes away. I can't
think of any long-running conservative comics, unless one counts the
redneck humor of the blue-collar brigade as conservative. I can't
recall any conservative comics with any ethnicity other than white.

I, as a Christian, can laugh when Mel Brooks, Ricky Gervais, or Bill
Maher make fun of those who believe in Jesus. But when conservatives
make jokes about liberals worshipping science, and laugh at those who
value claims supported by evidence... it isn't funny, it is sad. When
they say that poor people are that way because they are lazy or
clueless or trying to cheat others out of their money... it isn't
funny, it is sad. Yet the majority of talk radio features
conservatives laughing hysterically at liberals. But it isn't funny.

It is just mean.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
