I'll probably open up a can of worms by suggesting this, but if memory
serves (and I admit I'm not a large Who fan), the previous Doctors haven't
exactly gone onto bigger and better things, have they? I've seen them in
some indie flicks here and there, and some other BBC fare, but haven't
most of them left a show where they had at least a cult following, only to
have to hit the convention circuit to even hope to stay in the public eye?
Is there a reason why Mr. Smith thinks he will do better when he hangs up
his Tardis?
Since we Americans don't have a direct BBC or ITV feed, that's how we
perceive it.
Without digging into IMDb or Wikipedia:
*I know Tom Baker (#4) has developed into a voiceover artist, culminating
with "Little Britain".
*Peter Davison (#5) has had roles on other British TV shows -- we'd be most
familiar with L&O: London.
*Sylvester McCoy (#7) is playing Radagast in the ongoing "Hobbit" film
trilogy.
As for Mr Smith, it appears he will be the male lead (opposite Christina
Hendricks) in Ryan Gosling's upcoming directorial debut "How To Catch A
Monster". (The fangirls will be disappointed to note that he has buzzed down
his heightened hair.)
