To piggy back on this: if you're using Gmail, you'll probably see the small box with three dots in it. Clicking that opens the various previous parts of the chain that Gmail is graciously hiding for you for easy deleting. So when you get four or five levels deep, that things is chock full of unnecessary boiler plate.
