Quote from the article:

"So a question looming over the new season has been: Who will replace Mr.
Meyers and inherit the chair that has provided an almost guaranteed ride to
the next level of stardom? (Other recent occupants: Amy Poehler, Tina Fey
and Jimmy Fallon.)"

I am currently reading That's Not Funny, That's Sick, a history of the
National Lampoon by Ellin Stein (I will write a review/recommendation here
after I finish). There was a lot of overlap between the Lampoon radio show,
records, and theatrical casts and the early cast of SNL. One thing Chevy
Chase said about being the breakout star of the first season of SNL is that
the Weekend Update anchor gives his/her name to the audience and works
directly to the camera and that makes the anchor stand out from other cast
members.
