I am fine with having the replacement channel that actually covers the
weather. I never
watched The Weather Channel anyway for much the same reason everybody else is
saying: they stopped covering the weather and spent hours with documentaries and
even Hollywood movies (I'll never forget turning on the channel and seeing them
airing "Twister". I guess there is a tornado in that one. Apparently Ted Turner
wouldn't make The Wizard Of Oz available.)

The only thing that I miss is that DirecTV has what they called the "Active
Channel" that has things like lottery results, horoscopes and used to have the
current local temperature and forecast available 24/7. But the weather info
was being fed by The Weather Channel. So now that TWC's gone, guess
what else is gone.

Interestingly, all of the comments in the above link are anti-TWC, one calling
them "the MTV of weather." Hasn't anyone ever explained to people that
advertisers don't want to buy time on cable channels that people only watch for
five minutes or less at a time, which is the problem with every channel that
tried a radio-style format (TWC, MTV, VH1, HLN, CMT)?

Are you really that surprised that people are complaining about change? It's
pretty much a global pastime. Especially after 25+ years of being conditioned
to expect to be able to turn on TWC and see current weather information at some
point in the next few minutes? It may not be entirely logical, but I think it's
entirely predictable to think that they would have lost some goodwill from
their loyal-but-undesirable viewership, particularly given how candid they've
been about the fact that they're more interested in viewers that advertisers
want than people tuning in to check the weather.
