The relevant comparison will not be Fallon at 11:35 with Fallon at 12:35, but Fallon at 39 with Fallon at 49. Check back in 10 years and Fallon joking with Timberlake will seem more like Carson with Sinatra than the two guys who sang about di*ks in a box (or was that dic*s in a box?). ----- I don't know the style guide rules for neutering profanity in print. I really appreciate this point, since I think it works for both Conan and Dave. Conan was just a year younger than Dave when he went to 11:30. I have no idea if Conan was consciously trying to do a different show due to being older, since the change of coasts and the return or Andy would (I think) shaken things up enough regardless. Also, Conan and Dave were at 12:35 at least twice as long as Jimmy was before changing. If I were to pinpoint a part of the show to watch, it would be the party games. Fallon's musical tastes are wide enough that he's arguably already doing Carson with Sinatra when he sits down with Springsteen or Billy Joel (though I doubt Carson would take over a duet like Fallon did Thursday night). If he's still tossing water balloons or cracking eggs with celebrities in 10 years, that would exacerbate any feelings of arrested development. I'd expect to see more charades and name that tune and less elevator lobby soccer and what's in the bucket. David -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
