Take this with a grain of salt, but earlier on the "Today" show it came out 
in the discussion of the Letterman/Colbert transition that Colbert had 
timed the expiration of his CC contract to coincide with the end of Dave's 
CBS agreement.  Not sure how much truth there is there, but if true, then 
Colbert has been thinking about this for a while.
