He was the real deal. I had a few interactions with him during my nefarious Hollywood years, once while interning for Tom Snyder and again a few years later when I was a page working on the Emmys. He was still very much the Oklahoma kid, humble, polite, and funny. I've also gotten to know his daughter on Twitter over the last couple years, and she shared some fun memories of him, too.
I'm sorry he's gone, but glad he never had to see a reboot of Rockford Files.
