Which had, by the time CBS reacquired the building for Letterman, had become another TV studio in the years that Reeves Teletape and Unitel owned the Ed. They had pretty much gutted the interior outside of the lobby area, conquered the reverb that was always a trademark of the space and did "Kate and Allie" with several sets next to each other on ground level and bleachers, just as if it had been done at a Hollywood soundstage. Several early episodes of :"MTV Unplugged" were shot at the Ed with the in-the-round setup indicated clearly the changes. So did a standup special Elayne Boosler did for Showtime taped at the Ed, where she actually walked in from Broadway through the lobby and into the studio space in the opening. It was CBS that redid the theater setup--complete with balcony--for Dave and I believe the current capacity of the Ed is one-third of what it was when Sullivan was there.
